Walking the dogs

We always hear about letting slip the dogs of war. But have you ever wondered about the chap who has the job of walking them?

This is the second, corrected sketch drawn in HB pencil over a rough sketch on a lightbox - which is one of my common methods. Somewhat unusual was the use of an intermediate sketch done in three colored pencils, which I used to check up the anatomy, poses and relative placement of the three overlapping figures. The different colors allowed each figure to be clearly seen while still overlapped by others. (Both the rough and the color structure test are attached below if you would like to see them.)
